Staying Safe in Winter

I appreciate the guest post, Jewel Rodgers

There’s no reason to freeze this winter when you have so many ways to keep warm. But these methods, like all things, can backfire, so you need to stay safe and maintain constant vigilance to make sure “being toasty” doesn’t turn into “becoming toasted… by the electric blanket you left on overnight.”

First, when you bundle up to stay warm, make sure your clothes are setting- and age-appropriate. Don’t become overzealous and cut off your circulation. Don’t use drawstrings or complicated clamping mechanisms when dressing a small child, or you run the risk of creating a scenario where they can’t get out of their own clothes in an emergency.

Keep an eye on your heaters, especially gas heaters. It only takes one mistake to cause an injury or even death. Use things like electric pads and heated blankets with great caution, because they’ve been known to backfire.

Always set your home alarm from home-alarm-systems.com/ when you leave the house. While most of us enjoy the holidays as a happy, joyful time, there are others who see the lax security as an opportunity.

Storm-proof your home. Fortify your windows and doors to contain drafts, and clean out your gutters to avoid a backlog. Stock up on the essentials – things like boxed goods and toilet paper. If you find yourself snowed in, you’ll want to be prepared!
